60,000 for school play
facilities

MORE than 60,000 has
been allocated to schools around the peninsula to
improve their outdoor play and sports facilities.
The funding from the Dormant Accounts Fund will go
to Moville Community College which gets 19,620;
Scoil Naisiunta Baile Nua An Phobail,
Newtowncunningham, 17,000; Scoil Naisiunta Naomh
Baoithin, St. Johnston, 17,000; Clochar Padraig
Naofa, Carndonagh, 12,160; Naomh Bodain, Culdaff,
10,000 and Scoil Mhuire, Dristearnain, 10,000.
The local schools are among 34 in the county to
receive the allocations which are also part-funded
by the RAPID Leverage Fund.
Donegal North East T.D., Niall Blaney said Donegal
received the fourth highest allocation in the
country.
"A total of 384,631 has been allocated to Donegal
schools. All of the schools included are either
schools participating in the DEIS programme, are
schools in serving RAPID areas, or are schools in
disadvantaged areas, said Deputy Blaney.
The schools and consequently their students, will
benefit greatly from the improved outdoor play
facilities.
Among the approved projects include the repairing of
hard surface play areas; construction of
pitches/courts/tracks; the installation of soft play
surfaces; the purchase of play equipment and the
painting of murals.
Meanwhile, applications under the same grants scheme
for libraries, parent rooms and dining areas will be
assessed and approved by the Department of Education
over the coming months.
The other schools in Donegal North East to be
allocated funding are; Glenmaquin National School,
Knockbrack, 5,000; Raphoe Central National School,
17,000; Scoil Choluim, Ballyheerin, Fanad, 10,000;
St Davadogs National School, Tamney, 10,000; Scoil
Naisiunta Naomh Colmchille, Drumoghill, 10,000;
Scoil Naisiunta Mhuire, Millford, 12,618; St.
Colmchille NS, Drummam, 10,000; Scoil Naisiunta
Umlach, Carrigart, 10,000 and Scoil Mhuire,
Ramelton, 16,999. |
