Car lovers raise €2K for charity 23.07.07

YOUNG car enthusiasts raised more than €2,000 yesterday at Inishowen's only modified car show. Port 'n' Polish was organised by Greencastle's Shaun McGonagle who said he was delighted with the success of the show.
	He told InishowenNews.com he hoped the event would also encourage people to distinguish between genuine young car lovers and the notorious 'boyracers' so often in the news. "It went very well. We haven't counted the money yet but we would estimate at this stage that we raised about €1,000 for each of the two charities." The charities to benefit are the Alan
Doherty Fund, which is raising money for facial surgery for 17-year old Alan Doherty and the Foyle Punt Association which is trying to revive interest in the native Foyle Class Punt boat.

Shaun admits there were "a few eejits" after the show but the majority of drivers were responsible and only interested in exhibiting their top-of-the-range motors. He said local Gardai kept a vigilant but discreet eye on the event at
Glencrow Business Park, Moville. Top winner yesterday was Ian Barr from Muff who took the 'Car of the Show' category in his MR2 modified motor. Meanwhile, the industrious 23-year old Shaun from Ballybrack is looking forward to dividing the proceeds between his two chosen charities.
