Q.  I am getting a reduced rate of Jobseeker’s Allowance as my wife is working. I am thinking of applying for a Community Employment scheme. As the work on the scheme is only part-time how much will I get?

06.08.12

Participants in a Community Employment (CE) scheme are paid a wage based on 19.5 hours a week or 39 hours a fortnight. Since 16 January 2012 new participants on Community Employment (CE) schemes cannot claim another social welfare payment at the same time.

Your CE payment is based on the rate of the social welfare payment you were getting before you started the CE scheme plus €20. However you cannot be paid less than €208 a week.
So if your reduced rate of Jobseeker’s Allowance (JA) is €188 a week or less, you will get the minimum weekly rate of €208 when you are working on a Community Employment scheme.
If your JA payment is more than €188 a week then your CE payment will be the same rate as your JA payment plus €20. For example, if your JA payment is €233 a week, you will get a CE payment of €253 a week.
