Q. How do I register my septic tank?
17.09.12
The new registration and inspection regime for septic tanks and
similar systems aims to protect ground and surface water quality
from the risks posed by malfunctioning systems.
You must register the details of your septic tank with your local
authority by 1 February 2013 and pay a registration fee. The
registration fee will be €5 up to 28 September 2012 and €50 after
that.
There are three ways to register your septic tank: Online at
www.protectourwater.ie .
By post, - forms are available in town/county councils, libraries
and Citizens Information Centres or by calling LoCall 1890 800 800
for information. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Protect Our
Water’ and posted to Protect our Water, PO Box 12204, Dublin 7. Or
at your local authority office (there is no administration fee)
which will compile a publicly available register.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is developing a national
inspection plan and the local authorities will arrange for
inspections to be carried out. There will be no inspection charge.
You will have to re-register after 5 years but you will not have to
pay a fee for the second or subsequent registrations.
